Thanks to my student Yujin Kwak for conducting an interview with Woong Kim, an international student from Korea. Woong revealed many interesting topics and challenges that one faces when traveling to the United States from another country. These cross-cultural challenges bring many opportunities for new programs and ideas to help ease the transition into our very unique culture.

It is very interesting and insightful to hear about other individual’s experiences coming to live and attend school in the United States from another country. I cannot imagine stepping off of a plane into a culture that is so drastically different and not being able to understand the language or read signs to even understand where I was going. It is amazing to me how people who immigrate into other cultures are able to adapt and learn how to integrate into the culture.
Well said Melisa. Thanks for sharing. I agree with you. One way I have helped bridge the cultural differences is http://www.HLSLInstitute.org. Hopefully international relocation will become streamlined so that we can enjoy the transitional experience. ; )
